My first bunch of comics were bought back in the late 70s in the local Dime store. They were 3 in a packet for a dollar (35cents cover price).
I was trying to recall the first bunch of packets.
When I was 4 at home with chicken pox my dad brought home a FF three pack with 197-199, which had the Red Ghost and a two parter with Dr doom's cloned son. These didnt make a huge impression.
But the ASM pack with 183-185 with Rocket Racer, Big Wheel, and the White Dragon really got me started.
Later on I got a three pack of Captain America with 224-226. The first issue had Cap with hair dyed black which confused the heck out of me.
But there were also mixed packs, I remember I got one with Thor 275, ASM 187 (in which Cap beats up spidey, leading me to think he was stronger) and the third one I cant recall but it might have been Cap 222.
Do you guys remember these? I remember great excitement about wondering what the 3rd hidden comic was.

I remember Toys R Us used to sell bags of older comics. I probably got some as a kid but I couldn't tell you which issues.
I did have FF #197 and reread it many times as a kid. I probably bought it off the spinner rack at the grocery store. I was dropped into the middle of a story and didn't know what was going on. Reed was depowered, had to recreate the experiment that originally gave him his powers, which also recreates the Red Ghost, some obscure old villain I guess. I liked the fight between the two and Reed finding many ways to use his powers. That's what I often found interesting about comics, the many different applications of one superpower.
