I can kind of see why they'd reduce the playtime for broadcast but why the heck would they do it for the VHS release? I guess it shouldn't surprise me the way big studios misread what the fans want. While I'm partial to The Night Stalker and The Night Strangler, because I like the character of Kolchak so much, you can certainly argue that Salem's Lot was the greatest TV horror movie from the board's era.
Thanks for the comment.

I liked the Kolchak movies and the series to a slightly less extent. I was disappointed it lasted such a short time. Looking back the show was pushed into the one hour formula common to t.v. and lost the feel of the movies. The lack of budget really becomes apparent as well which left the big 'What If" question. The re-make did not answer it.
