Going by Marvel and D.C. output I still have a hard time narrowing it down. The older I become the more awed at his quality and quantity of his work. It is a shame he never seemed to receive the acclaim he deserved. Stan Lee over shadowed mostly because Stan was the ship navigator while Jack was like the deck hand continuing the work to keep the ship afloat. This is waaay over simplified a version and Stan absolutely worked at getting Jack the credit he deserved but Stan was also the face of the company and its chief advocate. Whatever the situation at Marvel Jack left for D.C. and created the best work of his career imo. I have wondered why D.C. went to the trouble of luring him and then not supporting him too a much higher degree? I think Mark Evanier said the head of the company actually hated the Marvel Way of story telling and art. Apparently he was pressured into hiring Jack and then used the tools at his disposal to undermine Kirby. Whether that is true or not I do not know. What I do know is D.C. had the right's for all those wonderful charater's he left behind. I think that must of hurt Jack more than even the Marvel material. Getting of my soap box and to the actual question at hand. Come to think of I read them long after they were released. Kamandi was the one I dug through the bargain bins hoping to find. In retrospect it was pretty evident when Kirby left the title though it did hold up well for a time-then plunged off a cliff. Have you ever read the two issues of Comics Cavalcade that printed the last two unreleased issues issues? If not-don't bother they really suck. The Demon though it REALLY upset my mom. Eternals- Another great idea struck down. Klarion The Witch Boy. I know he was mostly a foil for the demon but I liked him. Omac-I know he was created as page filler for kirby to fulfill contract obligations and only lasted like eight issues but wow what promise it showed! Was OMAC the first ultra mohawk hair style in comics.I wonder how Jack Kirby would have fared if he had all those and fourth world titles had come into existence during the boom of comics in the 80s? That is a topic for another thread. | |||||||
