...they are no longer fighting an unintelligent brutish monster?
If you see the reactions and thoughts of the heroes, you see that they expect the Hulk to just jump in to the city yelling “HULK SMASH” and chaotic hitting everything in his path. They are so concentrate in the fact that the Hulk is more anger and stronger than before that they no recognize he’s fighting more intelligent and focus.
When the Hulk reach earth he star by taking control of satellite network, crippling the earth defense system, he defeat Black Bolt and then showed through the network what have the illuminati done to him and what he will to them delivering a psychological and moral blow. The way he fought against the x-men was brilliant, he not only hit them he neutralize them one by one. Ok the fight against Iron Man was brutal but Stark deserved.
And the Mighty Avenger and Fantastic Four come on they not only were operating under the more strong equal more stupid theory, they were complete oblivious of the fact that the Hulk was not alone. The Avenger were actually surprise by the arrival of the warbounds and that they were powerful fighters, something obvious if they are team with the Hulk, and Reed trying to deceive the Hulk with flash lights, that’s the best the most brilliant mind on earth can think about? If Hulk was not so angered he would feel insult
"I claim neither a name nor a title,
although I hope one day, perhaps, you will call me friend.
Until that time I must remain a Stranger."
Yes, but it is not suprising. Hell they all missed the entire Annihilation event. If they can miss a giant cosmics mishap, paying attention to the world Hulk was on was the least of their worrys.
At the same time alot of the characters that have lost to the Hulk have jobbed. Not that they should not have lost, just not like they did.
