...not sure where the consensus of this board would be as to which Hulk is back. I think the last 30+ years have proven that the Savage Hulk is by far the most challenging to get "right". Perhaps the recent flick he was in, will inspire a better handling of verbal Savage Hulk with complex thoughts/words. "Smoldering" for ex is not a word recent writers would think he's capable of saying.
I'm also not opposed to him starting out this way and evolving over time with character growth. I do think we lost something with the gray Hulk once viewing events of his treatment (see TIH 340) to the days when he was green. To the gray Hulk viewing Savage Hulk as an entirely separate incarnation (see TIH 369-377).
The only problem with a Gravage Hulk being brought back imo, is any story with him will likely pale compared o Planet Hulk. From his emotional journey to his ultimate power (Worldbreaker) to me HE feels like The Omega Hulk (not Doc Green thats for sure). He feels like The End-All-Be-All Hulk.
Gravage Hulk also is usually dominant over even Bruce. So if its a Hulk only run, then thats less of a prob. But if its close to 50-50, not sure their dynamic is as interesting as could be. Gravage is a pretty heroic Hulk, so the tension for Bruce to not turn-into him isn't really there imo.
A new Bruce Banner Hulk might be exciting. Maybe bring back a familiar one in this Avengers event but then eventually (and in own series) bring us something new. A Bruce Banner/Hulk series has soooo many things it will need to build. Not sure the foundation is very strong. The supporting cast and his villains are really, really poor imo. Old school Leader as being shown in the She-Hulk series cements my view that that specific version is beyond repair. If I could do a kinda sports trade, I'd swap him for High Evolutionary in a heart-beat. And Maestro's credibility as a threat took a huge dive after most recent Old Man Logan arc. I'd trade every Hulk villain for The Mangog thats appeaeing in Jason Aaron's Thor run. Good lawd thats a villain!!!
