Byrne left after a couple of issues, but I think that he had some long-term plans for the book and the character. He was the one that married the two, but I remember reading him say that he wasn't finished telling that story, and it sounded like maybe he was going to throw a curveball or something. Byrne is very much a traditionalist, and he seems to want everything to remain more-or-less status quo (As in according to Stan and Jack.), so maybe he wouldn't have had them get married or done anything to change the mythology. I have read most of the original Byrne run. The Avengers fight issue was cool, but I'm not really sure if his run should be listed as one of the best (It seems to make quite a few lists. And I remember when the Hulk Encyclopedia came out around the time of the first movie. If I remember right or correctly, the author sure seemed to have a high opinion of it.). But that might just be because I find his dialogue to be clunky and too expository. Thanks.
Although I might not care much for Byrne these days,I liked his brief 80s Hulk run. I remember he was going to use the Metal Master and have him animate the admantium Hulk statue sculptured by Alicia Masters & use it to battle the Hulk. That never happened of course.
Btw, does anyone know what became of Masters' Hulk statue, has it appeared anywhere since HULK # 300?
