Yup. It does have to be spelled out in my book.

I get Secret Wars and all that inconsistent deus ex machine stuff.
Doesn't explain anything.

We just assume all those Sakaarian never died years before Secret Wars reset everything?

If Sakaar WAS rebooted, why do they remember the Hulk?
Did Hiro-Kala's story - linked to the planet's destruction - not take place?

To me this is a mess that requires more thought than just 'nothing to see here'.

Secret Wars only explains the things that can't be explained logically.

If something is illogical or a continuity error then you can just say "Secret Wars" and that is supposed to be the explanation.

See you're thinking it is like Crisis on Infinte Earths were there were clear retcons. Nope. The beauty (or abject horror) of Secret Wars is that it changes nothing until some later writer screws up a point of continuity and then they just say "Secret Wars" and then you know there's no point arguing the point. Secret Wars is a CYA (Cover Your Ass) maneuver. Now a writer can screw anything up at Marvel and say "Secret Wars" and be let off the hook.

Did you ever read George Orwell's 1984? There's a plot point in that where the government routinely alters the truth via propaganda and you just sort of have to go along with it and believe it. Sometimes you have to believe 2 contradictory ideas. That's Marvel today.
