My local comics shop decided to carry Captain Canuck, the ongoing series about a Canadian superhero, published by the Canadian company, Chapterhouse Comics. I decided to give Captain Canuck a try, and liked it. It reads like a decompressed Golden Age comic. None of the Silver Age Marvel angst. None of the Silver Age DC silliness. None of the modern Marvel cynicism. None of the modern DC lack of discernible direction. Just a straightforward super-agent protecting his native land from hidden and unhidden threats. Anybody else reading this?

Just learned that the original Captain Canuck volume had an unpublished 15th issue from 1981 that has now been released with a limited 150 issues published. Not (yet) sure if it was via Chapterhouse Comics yet. Thanks to the internet, though, it was a real joy to get to read this followup chapter to the original run read when it was originally being published. The story picks up right where #14 left off and a flood of memories of Tom Evans being newly stuck in an alternate timeline. It's funny to learn that was the direction the book was headed ages before Savage Dragon did it and, now, even Rebirth Superman is doing it. My winning The Lottery dream to buy the rights to keep this Canadian comic afloat indefinitely may not be necessary if Chapterhouse Comics co. can keep Captain Canuck superhero stories inspiring the Great White North to call there own.

First IDW ROM, Future Quest, now Canuck... Indies is doing great this month.
