IIRC, in the Archie Comics (which I read some of) they had Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, some female animal character with brown fur, a walrus, the cowardly French-accented fox, and (at least in one of the old cartoons) a rabbit who arm had been "robotisized" by Robotnik. Now, in the IDW books I've read (so far), Sonic, Tails and Knuckles have different animal friends, like Amy Rose with the large hammer, and others (also seen in the Sonic Boom show). Could someone please explain this all to me? Are there two different types of Sonic continuities?


(I just downloaded everything Sonic comic related this week).

As I understand it the new IDW series and the Archie stuff (over 500 comics or so if you count limited series and one shots) do not share continuity:
