I think Dark Horse is most known for just creator-owned projects of all genres

When you say it like that I think of Image comics. While creator owned projects do exist at Dark Horse (like Goon) I don't think they stress that creator owned aspect like they do at Image.

You're more likely to find a comic book adaption of a video game, movie series or tv show. Kind of like IDW.

They started out as a creator-owned indie but they really brought traffic to them when they started doing licensed books like Aliens, Predator, Terminator, RoboCop. In the late 90s/00s they were probably best known for Star Wars and Buffy comics.

Of course along they way they had Sin City, Hellboy, and all that type of creator owned stuff.

But yeah, Image seems more of the home for that now, and maybe Vertigo since they are relaunching aren't they?
