The Mandarin was shown to have a harem in Invincible Iron Man Annual #1. Harems, though not always called that, predate Islam by quite a bit -- Genghis Khan had a bevy of concubines, as did the Old Testament figure Solomon.

There's actually a Chinese word for the same thing, huogong,and that tradition goes back even further than the harem tradition in the Middle East. So that's presumably what the Mandarin would call it.
