Reply Subj: Rhodey and the Bengal...did Rhodey still serve in Vietnam? Or has that been retconned away?

Ok years ago I was a big New Warriors fan and there was a storyline that I thought introduced Bengal and a later supporting character in the New Warriors/Night Thrasher named Father Michael Janes. Years later I found out that Michael Janes (and Red Wolf and Rhodey) figured into Bengal's origin years earlier in an old Daredevil story. The New Warriors story shows that Michael Janes and his military unit destroyed a Vietnam village and kicked the boy who grew up to be the Bengal out of an Army helicopter. The Daredevil issue (which I found years later) showed Rhodey was flying the helicopter (didn't come up in the New Warriors version) but I'm assuming Rhodey wasn't part of the massacre (Red Wolf was though).

So finally to my point...should we assume there is a retcon in place that removes Rhodey from the Vietnam war and his limited connection to Father Michael Janes and Bengal? Those 2 are sort of stuck tied to the Vietnam War but I assume since Rhodey's a popular character who appeared on a regular basis being part of the Vietnam war isn't crucial to his story.

I'm pretty sure that Rhodey's origin got retconned to keep him timely or up to date. Just like The Punisher, and I believe Flash Thompson as well.
