It was likely just timing, but I jumped off the JLofA ship at about the time of the great shift from the classic team to the Detroit team. So it wasn't until I returned to JLofAdom in the mid 90's that I went to back issue bins and filled in the story of the JLofA's most tragic line-up. I'll have to say that in the gleam of an historic view it was an interesting diversion, but it was all too easy to see that it wasn't anything that was going to last long. I liked Manhunter's increased role with the team and it was the best Aquaman stuff ever. That'll I'll give them credit for.

Vibe was hard to read and look at. I'm sensitive to his fans, but he was something of a trainwreck of a character, a trendy wannabe who was the Thunderbird of his day. This perhaps tells us what might've happened if they hadn't offed T-Bird in that famous X-comic. He'd just become Vibe. ;\-\)

I really liked Steel though, and I like that he's back today with the JSofA. Sorta'!

Aquaman was finally evolving as a character and getting Mera back was handled absolutely amazing. Someone finally expanded on Arthur and it keep me buying the book.

Johns and company are really gonna redeem the legacy of Steel. After what they did with Mr. America it's gonna be short of amazing I bet.
