Well yes, but...
In one short issue Johns made this a fleshed out character who you ended up caring (maybe not deeply but more than anyone has in 60 years and I read the Golden Age too)
about.
When he died in had an impact on the plot and other characters.
People were dying. This is serious danger for the JSA.
