Can Lightning Lad absorb electricity?

If so, maybe his off-panel intervention is the real reason Karate Kid didn't die.

By the way - it's awesome that you can read Interlac!

And contained in that sentiment is the main reason I loved this story so much. The Legion was in it! The real Legion - the one Superboy was a member of. So sweet.
