Nobody here has mentioned yet the Interlac message at the bottom of the last page.
Actually each chapter had its own Interlac title.
Chapter 1: Lightning Lad
Chapter 2:Dreams and Fire
Chapter 3: Suicide
Chapter 4: Three Worlds
Final Chapter: The Villain is the Hero in his Own Story

Are we talking about the Flash? Superman? Superboy? Bart Allen? Hmmmmmm. Anyone have any guesses? Who is the Hero in his own story?
Is there some other significance to chapter one being called Lightning Lad, and the fact the Karate Kid called out his name in the final act?

In this storyline, the Legion were the antagonists. So while in their point of view they were heroes trying to revive someone very important, they were the villains in this story because they were fighting against the JLA and JSA.
