Actually, I think this may be a good thing. Where ELSE were the new fans going to come from? Not every one of us is going to have children, and parents today sure don't have any reason to go into a comic shop.

Now, if only they could get these new books into bookstores and 7-11s. THAT'S where the customers are! They need to be THERE.

Most bookstores I've seen are good about having collections, sometimes even the comics themselves. Gas stations are probably a thing of the past because comics don't cost enough to justify the shelf space (that's why the direct market came into being, after all). But really, when talking about exposing future generations to comics, digital is where it is at.
