> Remember there was that point in the story, sort of towards the end, where Dark Claw and Super Soldier were approached and told the two of them were special somehow, that a lot hung on them and always had? Then the DC and Marvel universes were separated again and suddenly it was Batman and Superman standing there?
> I just hit me...
> Why wasn't it Bruce Wayne, agent of Shield, and Thor-El who were approached, and who ended up de-merging into Batman and Superman?
> I mean, Bruce was still Bruce in the Amalgam reality, even tho' he hadn't become Batman. He was still Bruce. (As for Thor-El, he's the only Amalgam character I can think of who came close to being the "real" Kal-El like Bruce was still Bruce. I mean, Super Soldier's body may have had SOME of the DEAD alien baby's DNA, but he wasn't really Kal-El.)
> I know.
> This is a stupidly OLD story to be bringing up, but it just hit me tonight so I thought I'd ask here. Didn't seem right to bring it to the Superman or Batman boards.
I think you might be misremembering some of the story details. It was Batman and Captain America that was standing in the alley. They were mixed up with Wolverine and Superman respectively to make up Dark Claw and Super Soldier.
As to why they were those characters where used, well Thor-El didn't show up till one of the later minis, I want to say it was Unlimited Access. And Bruce Wayne had more of the Nick Fury elements, while Dark Claw had most of the Batman elements with him.
Also Dark Claw and Super Soldier was supposed to be the Amalgam's finest and they had to have the heroes that had the main parts of Batman and Captain America in them, being that's where Access had hid the last remains of the DC and Marvel universes.

Correct, Thor-El was an amalgam of Thor and (electric) Superman from Unlimited Access, a story in which DC and Marvel characters were just jumping universes and Access grabbed a few handy ones and amalgamated them on the spot, they were not from the "true" Amalgam universe.
Originally Superman was merged with Captain America as Super-Soldier and Thor with Orion as Thorion of the New Asgods.
It was a strange case with Bruce Wayne since even though Batman and Wolverine were merged into Dark Claw, there was still a Bruce Wayne. That was also true of Storm who became Wonder Woman but Diana Prince still existed as a seperate person.
I'd agree with you, moonlight_night78, that it was probably more a case of Dark Claw containing the Batman elements while Bruce Wayne of SHIELD probably had more elements of Nick Fury.
