In the very beginning, Despero had his mohawk from side-to-side. His barber was drunk back in the '60's and Despero fell asleep in the barber's chair.

Needless to say, his barber isn't with us any more. \:D

It WAS side-to-side when Despero first appeared, and it was changed back in 1986 when he fought Justice League Detroit, after they moved into the League's former mountain HQ.
