Subj: When he's good he's amazing. When he's bad, it's a head scratcher/face-palmer.

I read two things by James Robinson today
The good and the bad.

and you can probably guess which one is which...

The good is the Starman Onibus.
even if your not into Starman I reccomend this, plus I finally got to read ( finish reading ) Hellboy/Starman/Batman.

and the bad
Cry for Justice
aw damn, this is what everyone has been talking aout, and bashing... and rightly so
oh, Robinson, WTH? Why Why Why?

I was all geared up to love Cry For Justice, and right off the bat I didn't love it... Number one, I don't like stories where people get killed to spur the heroes into action, which means I don't like much of DC's output this century. So that was a huge strike against it.

Number two, JR is given to godawful dialogue and melodrama, and CFJ had that in spades. If not reined in, his writing can be really bad.

Number three, um.... I don't know who's idea it was to have Speedy lose an arm, but WWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY??? ? ? ? ? ? and wtf.

Number four: the art was an odd situation... it was great art but didn't fit the story at all. It was like if Barry Windsor Smith had illustrated Gary Friedrich's first Ghost Rider stories.

Basically, if I were an editor, I would have wiped that series clean and called for a do-over.
