Aquaman has risen from the dead, and is basically the same as his classic incarnation. We do have an extra Aquaman floating around at the moment, but the odds of him getting retconned back out of existence are pretty high... which is unfortunate, since his solo run was pretty awesome.

See, what happened was, during the one-year gap at the conclusion of Infinite Crisis, Aquaman used some potent magic which transformed him into a squid-headed monstrosity called the Dweller in the Depths. At the same time, it turned out that the man who raised Orin's brother was a scientist who had used his DNA to mutate his son, also named Arthur Curry, into a waterbreater reminiscent of the Golden Age Aquaman. This Aquaman was washed out to sea where he met the Dweller in the Depths and King Shark, who allied with him to repair Atlantis which had been stomped on by an angry Spectre during Infinite Crisis. (King Shark was following his shark god father's advice, while the Dweller was working on his own memories trying to recreate another Aquaman.) Ultimately, the Dweller died saving Arthur and faded into water. Some of this was gathered by Mera and buried on land, as per classic Aquaman's request. Ultimately, the new Aquaman discovered that he couldn't bear the expectations of the role, and abandoned it and Atlantis during the night, shortly before the Blackest Night occured and the true Aquaman returned as a Black Lantern, and, later, as a living being. (King Shark, meanwhile, ended up getting co-opted into the Secret Six, where he remains to this day. He looks to be getting severely retconned in his post-reboot appearances though, as he's changing to a Hammerhead-style shark in Suicide Squad.)

Anyway, classic Aquaman's back, and looks like he'll be staying as such for a while. Johns has said he'll be the chairman of the new Justice League, come reboot. It should be fun!
