Good Art is ten-a-penny these days, I'm not for one minute saying Lee is bad rather I'm saying he isn't the best out there. Not anymore. What his appointment and the JLA relaunch is about (to me) is hype, I can honestly say I really liked the Robinson run and we had artists just as good/better than Jim Lee servicing the book, but 'Hype' and perceived wisdom says Jim Lee is the industrys best artistic talent combined with Geoff Johns who is the best writer out there. Both of these statement carry some weight but neither are they absolutely true. All they are doing is teaming up to deliver a glitzily packaged new beginning with a brand new #1 issue and featuring the big seven members that everyone wants to see... or 'think' they want to see at any rate. In these circumstances James Robinson and Brett Booth could have done exactly the same thing, with the same amount of quality and hype. Sterling Gates and Miguel Sepulveda too could have delivered an equally big buzz with that support. Tony Bedard and Ivan Reiss teaming would be just as effective But here we are, with Geoff(overworked)Johns and Jim(unreliable)Lee. I like them both really I do yet this project hasn't impressed me as anything more than another hip 'All-Star' treatment that will splutter and die before two years are up..... | |||||||
