as Mon-El said to Brainiac regarding a new leader (Mon-El resigned),

"it's always about you." - like Brainy, Batman will always have his shadow hovering over the leader, no matter who it is, or who is wearing the Bat costume.

And Batman as leader is fine by me. \(yes\) \:\)

I was just unclear at what point he started gravitating to this position is all... When I think back to the original JLA series the leadership role was always a bit vague, I don't remember it being like the Legion where they had regular elections and a clear role. I'd hazard a guess Batman's ascendance began around the #180's culminating in his split to form and lead the Outsiders but to be fair the JLA's membership at the time did fluctuate a bit, he wasn't often around for it.
