Just read the September solicitations for DC Comics and it looks like the JLU has added four more members. Three of which I'm OK with, the other one I'm not too sure about. They are Steel, Robotman, Batgirl, and Vandal Savage. They will be joining Stargirl in a very familiar war zone. The one I'm interested in seeing is Batgirl, since Supergirl is still inactive. I'm a little puzzled about Steel, however. Is it the John Henry Irons Steel or the much hated Hank Heywood Steel from JL Detroit? I just hope it's the JHI one since we need a little ethnic diversity on the team. Robotman is another okay choice, but I hope he returns to the Doom Patrol after this.

The character that bothers me the most is Vandal Savage. This is another character that should have stayed with the Demon Knights. Why would they put him with the Justice League?

Why not? Justice League United has morphed into the equivalent of the old Justice League Taskforce from the early 90s, a special ops team that pulls operatives in according to the needs of the specific mission at hand. Vandal Savage was one of the foes the Taskforce went to war on, and while Savage is a very mercurial villain he tends to fit the Kobra/Rha's Al Ghul category - that of beinng a global terrorist.

Also, the preview states that a legendary DC Comics hero will return. I'm pretty sure it's going to be one of these six choices:

    Quote:
    1. Martian Manhunter: he's legendary and he left the JLU for no particular reason.

It won't be him, they would not word it like that for someone who has been there since the books start. Besides which I had thought Jonn was on his way to one of the other Justice League teams... my preferred candidate would be Black Canary.

    Quote:
    2. Green Arrow: another legendary character.

See above.

    Quote:
    3. Hawkman: yet another legendary character who flew off to Thanagar after the Infinitus Saga. I think he's the best guess.

Possibly, his story does need to be resolved.

    Quote:
    4. Supergirl: like Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, and Hawkman, Supergirl is legendary and would probably return once she retrieves her powers.

I have my doubts, DC appear to have plans for her that depend on the Television series, I don't think she will be back the the Justice League for a while yet.

    Quote:
    5. Firestorm: we haven't seen him since Forever Evil.

Yes, could be him, but "Legendary?" - Firestorm?

    Quote:
    6. Atom: probably the second best guess.

A likely candidate yes.

    Quote:
So now, the team is Adam Strange, Alanna Lewis, Animal Man, Batgirl, Equinox, Etrigan, Green Arrow, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, Mera, Poison Ivy, Robotman, Stargirl, Steel, Supergirl, Swamp Thing, and Vanadal Savage. Still, I'd like to see the Atom join this group of second stringers and I'd like to see Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, Hawkman, and a restored Supergirl rejoin the team.

That might be too big a team, with too many name-chharacters. If the book is now following the Justice League Taskforce template then the core membership need not exceed five or six regular members. Perhaps Stargirl, Hawkman, The Atom, Equinox, Animal Man, and throw in a wildcard like Frankenstein or Manchester Black. But there does need to be a strong leader figure as well, if Martian Manhunter is unavailable Black Canary would be ideal.

But what a shame Ralph and Sue Dibney aren't active right now...
