Its true!

I looked at Black Canary #1 over on the Green Arrow board, and in keeping with DCs new commitment to bypass continuity we meet a Dinah who sings lead vocals for an indie group called The Black Canary.
The series doesn't necessarily ignore Dinah's past, but going into the debut issue unprepared is likely to puzzle anyone who has been following her previously. In truth it isn't a bad debut issue, very good art and visual layouts, but scriptwise too non-commital in terms of character and originality. Dinah beats people up, on stage, off stage. The narrative is unintentionally comical in this regard as it could almost be a send-up of the Punk era and its excesses, and yet for all its implausibility the idea of Dinah dropping out of sight to become a touring vocalist in an up and coming band is no more odd than her becoming a florist... with this latest career change she had undergone it's just the matter of musicians being a little hard to actually do on the printed page, it being a sound medium and all. Since you cannot put across the emotion in the voice performance the emotion has to come across in other, more dramatic, ways. And there are therefore echoes of Alison Blaire to be seen here, and in more ways than one. Music may be a univeral facet of our lives, but on the comicstrip page it can only ever fall flat. \(coffee\)

Maybe the former members of The Great Frog make up her band? ;\)
