I wanted to do a write-up, but just don't have the time. So in brief - an interesting enough issue with all of the old successful Geoff Johns formula in evidence, well, mostly in evidence. With so much happening in these pages there is something for everyone to enjoy, and some elements are bound to cause a frown for DC readers.
The art by Jason Fabok is visually a treat to look at, I canot fault it, though I confess I am finding the plot itself rather complicated and with too many barely sketched characters popping in and out. If Geoff Johns can tip his hat to the Green Lantern:Godhead storyline earlier this year I do hope he will spare a line as well to explain how the very dead Steppenwolf is now up and running at Darkseids side, I would have no objection to his discorporated essence being collected and him ressurected by Darkseid after the events of Earth-2:World's End, but at least do me the courtesy of saying so in print please Mr Johns... it is a potentially surreal thought to think that Steppenwolf is father to Earth-2 Wonder Woman's daughter and that we may see him meet the Wonder Woman of Earth-1 here, such a meeting would, ideally, have occured in the proposed Justice League/Justice Society meeting, but for whatever reason DC and Geoff Johns have abandoned that long anticipated event and The Darkseid War may well be what the now aborted meting of the two earths was originally to be centered around.
But with so much in this issue a full review would be lengthy, if this was indeed a storyline originally pegged for the first League/Society meeting then it may explain why there is the feeling of it being... without a destination. Usually with these big storylines, especially from Geoff Johns, there is the sense of where we are headed for and what will await at the end of it. With The Darkseid/Anti-Monitor war there is none of that - it's anyones guess as to what the purpose of this epic clash actually is...
Just why are AM and darkseid choosing now to come to blows, for have they not been aware of each other for a long time?
Are they really now the two most powerful baddies in the new DCU?
And is Superman his normal self, or punisher lite in the JLA?
