Would there still be the Monitor then in the DCU?

I would say no, but who knows for certain. I would hazard a guess that the Monitors did exist at one point as Nix Uotan turned up in Grant Morrison's Multiversity, but If you think it through the very name 'Anti-Monitor' was/is a statement. A statement that this entity is the opposite-Monitor... thus far Geoff Johns does not seem to have considered that paradox in the characters current existence. If he's the ANTI-Monitor, where is his opposite Monitor?

And any battle between AM and darkseid would be the Guardians/Brainaic, many others into this, as that conflict could threaten the Universe?

In principle yes. This is what is undermining my confidence in the storyline - probobly the two most powerful beings in existence are going to war with the other and...? What?

It can only end up being anti-climatic.

Isn't the war between two of them be the one to draw out the Spectre, as he exists to safegurd humanity and sentient life?
