One of the things that irked me was the artistic change. The pristine artwork was the most enjoyable part of the whole story for me.

Freaking Lex Luthor is the luckiest jerk in the multiverse and I'm sick of him. The mightiest beings on Earth despise him yet he JOINS them, getting away with being condencending to BATMAN... and now as a mere hairless human ape on Apokolips, beaten to within an inch of his life, surrounded by entities that could pop him like a zit he stumbles into supremecy?

I concur on your points, I certainly wasn't prepared for the abrupt shift in visuals and direction with this issue, but everyone becoming a God like this...? Even Luthor, who barely merits comparison to even a mere gadfly, lost as he is on the vastness of Apokolips?
Too convenient. Too easy. It adds to the underlying dissatisfaction I have with this storyline as while the twists and grand scale is certainly a curiosity to gaze over the heart of the story is confusing and cold. Unlike Geoff Johns other great successes (The Sinestro Corps war, Blackest Night etc) this Darkseid War lacks any human element to it. There is nothing much here that speaks to me as a human being and no one to act as my intermediary and point of reference within the story. I feel like a passerby looking briefly through a shop window... lots of pretty tinsel, but there is nothing much to see or connect with here really.
