> The conversation below made me think that the only thing that Crisis on the Infinite Earths gave us was the notion of legacies. Before Crisis, most of the heroes were their own men. Barry Allen read comics, but he didn't really take on the GA Flash's legacy...he took a name from what he thought was a fictional character. It would be like Batman taking on the name Sherlock Holmes because he admired the character.

I believe the short answer would be "yes". It gives the writers some room to flex thier creative muscles but to me what its important is a sense of continuity in a good story. DC seems to do this better than Marvel (this coming from a former marvel zombie lol) and I think your observations on the after effects of COIE is interesting. All that said its not neccessary, always, for characters to have defined legacies and I think it can be cool to figure out the characters individual story as we go along for the ride as the audience. All that said I am a little hazy on the status of the DCU and I have finally caught up on all my issues of 52! I think its back to a multiverse but I am unsure what happened to the concept of Hypertime and all that. For me I like to see new ideas explored and I have to hand it to Dc for shaking thier "status quo" every once and awhile and taking the time to explore some new incarnations of heroes. Random question...anyone know if Dcs super powered characters are still called "metas" or if the Dominiator War or the Meta bomb is still responsible for the super people in the DCU. As always good reading to you all.
