I have read mixed reviews over the recent revelation that Wildcat has a son with Meta powers. I think the thing that the currant writers don't seem to understand about the character of Wildcat is that it is the fact that he does not have a specific legacy that makes him interesting and sets him apart from the rest of the JSA. Having his only son killed by a Golden Age villian and making him the fight trainer for most of the current JSA legacies as well as many other heroes makes Wildcat unique. While he has no actual legacy, in a way he has more legacies than any other character in the sense of the heroes he trains. I liked the fact that he was different and had more depth in this regard. The addiition of the new "Tomcat" just serves to rob Wildcat of his uniqueness and makes more like the other senior JSA characters. I liked him more as an uncle to everyone than a father to one.

Ted did kinda sorta have a legacy with the 1980s Wildcat in Infinity Incorporated but she wasn't blood. Her cousin Alex was briefly the new Eclipso (after the original killed her) in the last series, so we could stretch thngs further and say he was a legacy too. I prefer Ted as you do, but hopefully the new Wildcat will be more interesting than the last one.
