> I have to disagree here. The JSA had been teaming up with the JLA for about twenty years before, out of the blue, we are told that Hector Hall, Lyta Trevor, Rick Tyler, et al were their children. Heck, we saw Rex Tyler's first meeting with Wendy in Showcase Comics. Next thing you know, the two of them have a teenage son. I just base it on this: In comic book time, we are really only seeing a minute portion of the heroes' lives. So it is understandable that children, siblings, etc might get missed in the story telling.

Hourman never had an ongoing series though, nor was he part of a team that had a monthly series. There was plenty of 'empty space' to dump in kids for heroes who'd been active since WW2 (minor correction: We saw Fury before the rest), who lived in another reality and had no ongoing series of their own.

I think it makes Black Lightning a much more interesting character, myself.

While we've seen superheroes with adult children following in their footsteps before with various JSA members, the Lightning family has the advantage of not being tied to WWII. It's bothering me more with each passing year that all of these 85ish superheroes waited until their 50s or 60s to have kids (although I know they addressed that a bit with the murder of Wildcat's first son).

So how do you deal with being a "legacy hero" when you're the child of a hero who is still in his prime and just got a sweet gig in the JLA? How does Lighting find her place in the world with both her dad and sister active and high profile?

Plus, it's another African American heroine, and I appreciate DC's efforts to diversify.

And it looks like there's a nice story waiting to happen with Jakeem, and it will put an interesting twist on the Cyclone / Stargirl dynamic to add a third teenaged girl to the team.
