His grandfather intended to keep him alive and heal him, only for Despero to finish the job.

> Are you sure that you are not talking about Major Glory? (Guy Garnder's idol) I remember the Giffen JLA issues pretty good and don't remember Steel being in them. I could be wrong... To keep the orginal thread of an idea going I personally liked Steel from Detrtiot based JLA.I remember at the time reading those issues being shocked Proffesor Ivo's andriods killed him so mercilessly. On a personal note I was living in Michigan for a bit I found the character interesting. (although imo Vibe was the weakest character) As always good reading to you all. Anyone else remember the Steel series from the 70s? ;\)

TJ is right. It's during the Adam Hughes issues and leads up to the wonky Mr. Miracle android sacrificing himself (everyone thinks it's really Mr. Miracle).

I liked the experiment of the JL Detroit but the execution didn't cut it. And sadly, the team gets blamed for the stories being bad. Vibe was the weakest, but his death really highlighted the character and he's had a good story or two in Justice League Unlimited book. It's sorta like how Countdown to Infinite Crisis is predicated on the team and characters from the Giffen League being jokes that no one took them seriously and barely competent, unable to separate the characters from the book.
