Hawkman encounters a mysterious apparently cosmic being who proclaims Hawkman onre of the "Abberent Six". The cosmic entity proceeds to pull a "false memory" out of Hawkman's head. The false memory is Hawkman's death as Khufu. Parts of some exisistences destroyed in the Infinite Crisis wound up being grafter on Hawkman for unknown reasons. His beserker tendencies were partly caused by his true personality rejecting those false parts. The entity calls Hawkman, Katar Hol as he leaves.

The upshot seems to be that the current Hawkman is the Thanagarian version not the Carter Hall version. Part of the proof the Khufu memories is false is the fact Hawkman, an archeologist, has never found any record of Khufu and the fact things in his memories don't match known history. Some people have read this to simply mean Hawkman's memories are false but there may have been a real Carter hall who was Khufu re-incarnated. I took it as menaing there never was a Khufu and therfore no "soul" of Khufu (or Chay-ara) to be reborn in the 20th century as ANY Hawkman and Hawkgirl.
