Well ok, I know that after a while the original JSA comics were canceld after WWII because they wernt selling, and then after a while, the new jla was introduced, blah blah. The reason in the comics that the JSA retired was they were forced to reveal their identites? Werent they forced into retirement? Were their any issues that talk about this more, and explain what hapend?

Yeah, they basically took the McCarthy-ism's hunt for "commies" back in the early 50's and they applied it to the DCU. Rather than place their loved ones at risk by revealing their identities, they chose to retire.

I haven't been following the JSA long enough to know if this was the status quo pre-CoIE or if this was post-Crisis in order blend them into the "single Earth" history.

Heroes being heroes, they couldn't stand idly by while injustice did its thing. The entire JSA got pulled into some conflict where they were basically fighting Ragnarok until the end of time. Win or lose, they'd wake up the next day to fight it all over again. The JSA members were merged with various Norse Gods.

One of the DC cross-title events (I can't remember which one) resulted in the JSA members were freed from this eternal conflict and returned to Earth to resume their "normal" lives.

Those are the broad strokes. Perhaps someone else can provide more detail.
