    You get a new iteration of a terrific villain.
    You get to focus on one character - Mr Terrific is the perfect choice for a large number of reasons - and while he has never been my favorite he is so well depicted here that you are almost instantly invested in him.

    You still get to see the team (and I think this is about the maximum number of folks a JSA story should have)in operation with everyone getting a moment to shine.

    This is what the book should look and feel like.

    I am still on the bubble with Willingham but this series has my complete buy in

It was a pretty good starting point, but the pacing seemed kind of weird and as someone who did not read Checkmate, I wish Kobra's background had been filled out a little more.
