There would seem to be really no way though for him to be able to take down Kal unless there is a major plot device thing!

Maybe Lois finally connects firmly to Kal, and he decides to go ouit "in a bang" by trying to take down darkseid, trying to redeem his lost "humanity?"

That may be what happens I agree, I have pointed out before as to how it is actually impossible for Kal-el to be here now, the timing of his death five years ago and the fact 'Brutaal' was apparently hiding in Steppenwolf's lair these five years since make not one ounce of sense...
I am working on the assumption that this is Kal-el's animated corpse and not a case of him being brainwashed as as Lois herself makes clear what 'Superman' is doing right now doesn't fit with his nature at all. Given Kal has shown no sign whatsoever of a conscience I can't see him having a sudden bout of guilt which turns him against the invasion and Darkseid. I don't think that's the way this is going. So as you say someone, or something, is going to have to step in and take care of him.

And since val missed out all of those times, how would the Black population view someone who is now Superman, but would maybe not been associated with "being one of their own?"

Don't make it a race issue. The nature of Earth-2 is quite different to Earth-1, here the public is hungry for new heroes and Val's main concern won't be the colour of his skin, it will be restoring trust and confidence in the name of Superman and what the S-shield means. By nature of his power and his strength of character I see Val becoming every bit the icon Kal-el was, moreso in fact given the current War. \(yes\)

And Luthorjust seems to be so ingrained into the Superman Mythos, that it would be like trying to imagine bats without the Joker ever being around!

Hey I agree. When James Robinson first laid down the decision that there would be no Joker/Luthor etc it didn't quite make sense of the world these heroes lived in, but then they were only created to die after all. Given Gotham and Metropolis were razed to the ground in the War Joker and Luthor were irrelevant to the present anyway, in fact while the Joker did turn up a few issues ago in a stasis tube, to be killed by Thomas Wayne, it does seem odd there wouldn't have been a Luthor out there at one point too. But for all intents and Purposes his position seems to have been replaced by Terry Sloan - Sloan and his conduct during the War was/is everything Luthor's would have been...

So Val will be the Superman Our Kal will have to face down when Darkseid throws E1/2 at each other?

was hoping that E2 kal would have gone out way I suggested, just seems a fitting way to go for him!
