As I have pointed out before you have to bear in mind that when People talk about the Pre-Crisis era they are talking about something that ended in 1985 and is effectively frozen in time, never progressing past that point where it ended.
IF the Crisis never happened then quite clearly we would have seen changes anyway, John Byrne recently posted on his website of how if he had not had to reboot everything for Man of Steel then there would have been a plot where he planned to have Superman caught in a situation where he had to restart time and bbe changed because of it - a fresh start. That comment from Byrne may be apocryphical, something that would never have happened anyway, but the fact is a part of the publishers ovrhaul in 1985/86 was driven by the retirement of chief Julius Scwartz, he has led the published since the late 60s, and with him stepping down and seceding control character like Wonder Woman, Superman etc were always going to undrgo overhauls. I felt while reading Scott Lobdells Superman that this would be what the pre-1985 Superman would have evolved to be, Lobdell's run had a strong reverence for that era but smartly reworked to fit the here and now.
So think beyond where the character left off in 1985, and consider wher they might be now How would thy have changed to keep up with the times...?
Wou;dn't E1 ka; ne still married off to Lois, and they probably have had a family, and he would have probably been seen more as semi retired, almost like he was in Kingdom Come, as taking the role of mentoring and training new JLA for example?
