If they had to do this story at all (and I absolutely wish they hadn't) I would have been more well disposed if it been Geoff Johns in charge rather than Scott Lobdell. Although Geoff Johns too writes this sort of pandering fanpleaser, his fan-fiction is at least well thought out and generally very entertaining - see Legion of 3 Worlds for an example and if you can get past the heavy continuity requirement he does an extremely good job in ironing out Legion continuity since 1994's Zero Hour and fixing the paradoxes those years raised, chiefly Bart Allen and Jenny Ogats precise origins.
Devoid of any effort or logic I dont know where to even start in describing my disgust dissapointment in Convergence #8, apart from Flashpoint it is perhaps the laziest hack-work I have ever read from DC or Marvel, and that is saying something given the rubbish Marvel pumped out in the 90s.
I worry about DC Comics' wellbeing more and more.

We just might have to give DC the Cosmic enema, and have them give us back where this all started, the classic Silver age DCU all over again, just updated and modernized!
