I suppose the final issue allows for Dan Abnett to set up the characters for an all-new start and shows us a glimpse on what his set-up for the series would be going forward. Earth-2 was always a series that acted as a warped mirror universe to the main DCU earth, so seeing Dick take up the role of Oracle seems an inspired move, not as inspired as having Helena take on the mantle of her father however... that seems very strange at first reading, but as it sank in it was a fitting gesture I feel, brave. The series ends on an upbeat movement, and for that I am grateful, yet even now, after everything they have endured, the officially assembled group still is not allowed the Justice Society name. Indeed no name. And for that I am deeply critical, this series deserved better and we deserved better... around the corner lies yet another rebooting of the concept, and yet it won't be the Justice Society. A Justice Society, but by this stage in the proceedings the JSA ended in 2011 for me. The new restart will have to work mightily hard to win my interest, though whether I can trust DC with the JSA again is entirely a different matter. | |||||||
