Wally said the JSA exist as covert group during the war in rebirth panels, thunder remembers the take off your masks thing. And he whisked away the more human ones. Alan's deletion makes the group less likely to be public known, considering no bright coloured man with a glowing lantern. There's other nip ands tucks, but hmm.
The Doomsday Clock panels above show why Alan never was a GL in both rebirth and nu52. And why his kids aren't remembered or even alive today. It also means someone new can get the lantern and have a unique legacy of never was and never will be.
Doomsday clock is a deconstruction of everything from removing things off the board yet still feeling the ghostly effects of the previous universe.
Dr.M is a deleter who removes people, effecting things here and there. Only to see if it might still work or remain hopeful in the end via dissection and rebirth.
I'm not expecting them to restore Alan, they didn't restore Kon-el but did for impulse, they restored Supermans stuff sans the kents, matrix SuperGirl etc.
You can't write loss it's all undone.
Cannot say I am surprised. One, the Earth-Two series had a gay Alan Scott. This made using the original problematic as they would have to either walk away from that as the character has long been straight or retcon him leading to various outcries. This was probably the easiest solution. Two, Didio and DC might tease they are going to bring back the JSA, but DC's history, especially since nu52 has been to follow the Hollywood method - to take original concepts and ideas that were successful in the past and twist them and add more stuff in order to try to replicate the previous success and satisfy both old fans and people that want new stuff. And, then cancel after 12 issues when for some reason no one really cares for it. We have green power rings and yellow power rings, what about red, blue, etc? A Speed Force? What about a Still Force, Strength Force, etc.
It wouldn't surprise that's why it's taken so long since initially teased. Because, deep down, they don't want to simply bring back the original JSA with all of that WWII history, all those connections to other golden-age heroes such as the All-Star Squadron, 7 Soldiers of Victory, the original Freedom Fighters, etc. They want to supplant it with something that they think would be better. How can they do that so that it would have their modern stamp on it but give enough lip service to the originals in order to appease those fans? No, those stories, that history and continuity is long gone. Even Wally is now gone again.
