Makeover might be a bit "extreme". heheheheheheheh sorry about the pun.
In all seriousness, a makeover sounds too much like a big change in caracter so I would say no. However, I do agree a major storyline where he proves just how intelligent, powerful, and a force to be reckoned with he is would be a good thing. I personally would like to see a major event crossover where he succeeds in taking over the world. A storyline encompessing every title, with heroes underground, in fear for their lives, striving to return the Earth to the staus quo. It would have to be a couple years running. Would be a truly groundbreaking series of unbelievable ambition that would shake up 616 continuity for many years. And, it would help make the villains of comci books much more serious a force than it seems to be these days. I do believe Doom is the greatest villain in comics. Such a great, complex character.
Things seem to go in cycles in comics. Hero and villain popularity. Plot ideas. Right now Marvel's exploring other things to sell books and shake up their industry. Seem to be on a hero vs hero kick quite a bit lately. Hopefully, storytelling will return to grandious menaces from the supervillain community. Especially from the Monarch of Latveria!

Interesting idea, I can easilly see that as the idea to retcon Civil War. Especially even though they act like US enforcers shield is really UN. Maybe doom manipulates them to take over the US then the rest of the world and the war on doom tooles things, shows people their mistakes, and brings back heroism again.

As for doom himself, I only read a couple stories with him in it and I was unimpressed. They sort of had him shown as an over the top "Muhahaha! Arrogant fools! Their is no way your puny efforts can stop my conquest" type villain.
