Doom, IMO, is still the premiere bad guy of the MU. Have there been some bad Doom stories? Sure. Although rotten to the core, he still carries himself with a sense of honor and dignity.

One of my favorite Doom stories is Simonson's take on the character, when Doc comes back from a time-travelling adventure and reveals that for a lot of his recent history it was a Doombot who had assumed the Doom identity. With one word he takes out both the fake Doom and Kristoff and reestablishes himself as the rightful lord of Latveria.

Doom will always be Marvel's greatest villain. Any other contender to the throne will have to go up against Victor. No flip flopping back and forth like Magneto or massive overexposure combined with bizarre characterization like the Green Goblin. Doom's the real deal, and he laughs at Richards, Stark and Pym as they wage their little Civil War.
