Having really enjoyed the first two LEGION OF MONSTERS issues that came out recently, I've also started reading the old b&w ESSENTIAL volumes relating to Marvel Monsters and horror characters. It got me wondering as to which characters are really considered as prominent Marvel Monsters, and which may yet receive ESSENTIAL volumes. This doesnt include Godzilla, or other giant monsters/aliens that had one-off appearances around that era.

Starting with the current Legion of Monsters characters:

- Werewolf By Night
- Frankenstein Monster
- Man-Thing
- Zombie
- Morbius
- Dracula
- Satana
- Living Mummy

Firstly with these eight characters, there is a second Ess.WBN volume coming in October (according to MarvelEssentials.com), and the Man-Thing will definitely get a further volume.

Morbius and the Living Mummy.......... would they have enough 70s material to receive an Essentials volume EACH?

As for other supernatural/horror characters, would you consider the following to be part of the above group?

- Ghost Rider

He wasn't included in the recent one-shots, but that would almost definitely be due to his ongoing series.

- Son of Satan

He had a recent mini, but that didn't stop the Zombie from getting a role in the Man-Thing one-shot. Perhaps Daimon isn't considered as 'horror-ific' as his sister?

- Brother Voodoo

A horror character, or more supernatural, like Dr Strange?

- Blade

Did he have much exclusive solo action in the 70s? I'd consider him an almost-monster with a more modern role.

I'd appreciate any thoughts and comments for discussion..........

I don't think there's enough Living Mummy material in the whole of the characters' existence to make up a single volume (though a tpb of his SUPERNATURAL THRILLERS stories would be nice). There's enough Morbius material for several Essentials, and here's hoping they one day appear.

Definitely one of the Marvel horror characters.

Well, his Essential was called ESSENTIAL HORROR (though it also included her stories).

Definitely a horror character (with, in practice, more limited a range than Strange).

Not much solo action. He was part of the regular cast of TOMB OF DRACULA.
