It's a great idea. But there's good and bad points to it.
Jean Grey is a psionic alpha-mutant of the highest order. Something the Avengers have never had to contend with in their ranks.(the exception being Moondragon for a brief time.)
Something that wouldn't sit too well with Stark these days, as his thoughts seem to betray his words. I dont think he'd want anyone intruding inside his head. But the interplay between the two would be amusing to watch. Tony'd be infatuated with Jean, but would consider a relationship with a telepath off limits.
But he'd still want her.
Come on, it's Jean. Best female heroine Stan & Jack ever created. There was a reason they called her Marvel Girl. No other female ever matched the intensity of the original Dark Phoenix Saga.
Which is the problem I would have if she ever did join the assemblers. Once again we'd have to sit through yet another dragged out big event of Jean going Dark Phoenix versus the Avengers. That story arc would be inevitable. The Avengers never faced Dark Phoenix, and you just know it would happen. Thus diluting the original storyline once more with yet again another ressurection of the Dk Phx. Even if they revived Jean as they did once before, at the Marvel Girl levels of her powers, eventually the Phoenix is gonna emerge. No doubt dominating most of the focus of the story at the other Avengers expense.
Something massive and expensive (and delayed and late) as Marvel would hype it, but it's an event I could live without, but if it happened, I'd probably still pick it up. Because I think by now all of the original class of X-Men should have earned Avenger status by now.
