The MU has seen everything from entire countries being decimated by magic, to the devastation on the USA wrought by Kang's invasion. Stanford is a tragedy, but it's not THAT special a tragedy to the average MU person.

In what sense? Are you suggesting the Government was going to try and kill all the heroes?

Project Wideawake was always a purely anti-mutant project, has it been relaunched as something else?

It was clarified in 2 differnt 1-shot issues.

1)Tony is talking to Cap and says...you wont believe what the govt. really wants to do Cap (Project Wideawake). The other plans the govt. have on the table are horrific...at least this way we can mitigate what they plan to do by being on the inside.

2)The Watcher comes to Tony and shows him what would have happened had SHRA not happened...Project Wideawake would have been the result...The Watcher does show him though how Tony by simply saying the words..."Steve I need your help to make sure I do this right, I can't do it without you". Would have resulted in a much better result in SHRA.
