Agent Brand is a character introduced in Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run. She is the head of the agency called Sentient World Observation and Response Department aka SWORD. She is basically Nick Fury, but in space. And SWORD is basically SHIELD, but in space.

Agent Brand and SWORD were attacked in the first issue of Secret Invasion by the skrulls. This story is about Brand recalling her past interactions with the skrulls and their way of thinking. At the end of the story, she releases that the skrulls are acting in a way similar to the Trojan Horse attack in the Illiad, by making and indirect attack.

I got that she had an epiphany. I just didn't get how the finger tapping was important. The insurance metaphor was so ham handed the person next to me got it from just me reading it. Care to explain the taps?

Oh, and for some reason her thinking of what her fatehr said reminded me of that Iron Lung song by Weird Al.
