Cornelius - The DC Danvers...

Reading: The first RIVERWORLD novel again, TO YOUR SCATTERED BODIES GO. This science fiction pulp is something I'm fanatical about and have already read several times. Not a great strategy taking on the RIVERWORLD "trilogy" of five books when I still haven't got to C.S. Lewis at all or tried any more Mark Twain, I know. Still, it's got a grip of me again and I go where the action is. Oddly enough, on holiday for the last few days, I might have been only a few klicks from where an appalling RIVERWORLD television pilot was shot. Avoid! It replaces the exhilaratingly fascinating explorer and author Sir Richard Francis Burton with a generic nobody for the central character. And did I mention Mark Twain? He's in the second RIVERWORLD book, THE FABULOUS RIVERBOAT. Seemingly everyone who has ever lived is physically resurrected on/along Riverworld (??) So what is going on? Turns out to be science...
Listening: Lots of TV themes before I departed. MOD SQUAD and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, notably. Whatever happened to good TV themes? I went away with my friend Burt from Maine so it was easy to get into a Johnny Cash/Hank Williams/Carter Family/Stanley Brothers diet, and no, I don't get my great love for blue grass from him (or O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU for that matter.) Burt did get me into listening to Amy Winehouse in the last few days, though. Dusty Springfield, much? I really like it. Also: TRANSFORMER, my favourite Lou Reed album.
Watching: the only television I've seen is the inauguration. Chattering simpletons afraid people will tune out talked crap all through the John Williams composition. Real classy! (TV3 in NZ.)
RIP: Ricardo Montalban and Patrick McGoohan.
