I think it changes with the writers. Somebody like Masque can be sympathetic but is also likely to get tossed into a book and written completely devoid of redeeming qualities because most writers won't know much about her or really care. Overexposed villains, such as Spiderman villains that get used as canon fodder, often fall into this trap. One minute Mac Gargan wants to hang up his costume and make an honest living and the next he kills people for fun. Electro is probably the best example of this out of Spidey's villains.

I know there is a tendency to throw Magneto into this category, but I'm not buying it. Sure, he had good reason to think bad things would happen to his people but he's a smart man and could realize that what he was doing was as bad as the actions of the people he feared. I can only feel so bad for him. On the other hand, you could look at a guy like Carnage, who is pretty much written as evil incarnate with no hope of salvation. However, in his case you can at least argue that he is insane, the product of long term abuse, mental illness, and a violent symbiotic influence.

I think the most likely answer to this question is the Hulk.

> The least sympathetic? I may have to think a while about that one. On a side note, the least sympathetic TV character of all time is that Kate $%^&& on LOST. Good Lord, I really hate her. She's a murderer. She's responsible for a few other deaths, if I recall correctly. I'm currently rewatching the show for the 2nd time (Season 2 right now), and I hate the hell out of her. I can't stand her and I can't stand that the writers are trying to make me try and get around her crap by making her sympathetic. If I knew someone like her in real life, I wouldn't waste my time with him/her and think the person was a waste of space. Fortunately, the actress playing her does a good job of making me hate her, lol.

Yeah, to be honest I could do without the whole Jack/Kate/Sawyer thing. Jack is boring, Kate's story just doesn't interest me, and Sawyer is a one dimensional character that just stands around and says freckles all the time. I'd to get more of the good stuff...Locke, Sun/Jin, Desmond...those were the good stories. Season 4 is going well though.

> The least sympathetic villain? Hmmmm....

Gotta be Red Skull
