Nova 026

Very good cover. And it sadly takes away from next month's cover as it makes it sorta redundant: http://marvel.wikia.com/Nova_Vol_5_27

The do-nothing prologue with a cameo of Sam's Dad and crew was better than nothing, barely, but it really should have been stuck in the middle as an interlude rather than a go-knownowhere subplot teaser for this story.

It was also a mundane start to the action but still nice to catch up with his supporting cast and see what a cool teacher Ms. Schaefer is turning out to be. It was a bit frustrating/offputting there was little insight of how Nova accepted Avengers membership last issue only to know he had to be taken out of the game, right away, due to injuries and helmet damage.

So, Carnage is back to being 'the same old' psycho-killer. He doesn't even note his stint at being good or the odd promise to spare the superheroes shame of Inverted Acts of evil once he along with his Axis Avengers were De-Inverted. The wanting AXIS followup is quite bothersome. Seriously, HOW STUPID was Cap and company to 'let them go' on that promise (not to mention hide from public scrutiny behind supervillains). Now, here's Cletus back already for some psycho-revenge.

The Carnage vs Nova fight was pretty good as was their banter. The exposition threat to Nova's secret identity was fun in the classic Spider-man stories tradition. HOW IS HE going to get out of this one?! And what's with the 'robot eggs' all over Cletus' body? It seems that returning to your daily school routine and not putting your family in protective custody would be a VERY BONEHEAD decision... YUP. There's Carnage about to ruin everything and kill everyone on the last page again.

Carney may be in for surprise of empty calories if he craves Sam's brain. ;\) Gotta wait 30 to find out now.

I miss Dad and Dan.

Already back from the dead? Wow, Spider-man is going to feel pretty foolish for making that monument. Does this issue show how he survived? He looked pretty definitively dead in Axis.

This has to be an all-time record for resurrections. Not even a month went by since his death in Axis. Killing Carnage was Axis' only notable achievement (other than throwing more muck at Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch).

And a lean, silent figure slowly fades into the gathering darkness, aware at last that in this world, with great power there must also come -- great responsibility!
