Quote:ok, maybe "If we vote with our wallets, our voices will be heard." is a tad optimistic, but the point stands. Marvel will put out what makes money, and cancel titles that don't make them money. Why should Marvel change what they do, when people who don't like it buy it anyway? You can't control the spending habits of people with bad taste, but you can stop contributing to the message that "we want more Nick Fury Jr." (or some other inane change they've made)
I think the thing we all have trouble accepting...those things we all despise...they make more money than the things we like.
Think about the music you listen to...you've got that obscure artist you like that never had mainstream success. But pieces of crap like Justin Beiber become wealthy due to their success.
The world isn't fair. There are so many people with crappy taste who like to buy crap you won't ever get to see the products you actually like flourish. We delude ourselves into thinking that something that is absolute crap will not sell. I assure you it will. You can put out a coffee table book with nothing but pictures of poo on it...and people will buy it..."oh cool a book about actual crap".
Marvel's still going to make their money and still put out dozens of crappy Avengers and X-Men books.
Whats the saying? 'No one ever lost money by underestimating the stupidity of people'.
Probably true for the ,most part, although there are cases where Marvel continues to throw shit at a wall just hoping something will stick.
Nick Fury Jnr is a classic case of that. Battlescars was pretty much universally panned, didnt sell great, and now Secret Avengers - the unofficial Nick Fury Jnr book - is not only giving us garbage stories but its sales are in the shitter too.
Will Marvel get rid of Fury Jnr though? Definately not - well at least not until after Secret Wars when they will formally replace him with Ultimate Nick Fury.
